About Mrs. Powell

I am Dawn Powell.  I am excited to be part of the Hawk Nation!!  I graduated high school from the largest high school at that time in the state of Tennessee, McGavock High School in Nashville.  I got my Bachelors in Business Administration in Finance from MTSU and went on to Cumberland University in Lebanon for a Master's of Arts in Education.  I taught middle school at Christiana Middle School for 18 years mostly in STEM instruction and a few years teaching English.  My favorite philosophy of teaching involves problem solving.  Life is just a series of problems and solving them creates challenges to overcome.  I hope to instill the love of problem solving in my students!!!  We will learn from each other and use our experiences to enlighten each other.  

 

Before I began teaching, I had many different jobs.  I have been a waitress, babysitter, janitor, educational assistant, auto auction driver, insurance underwriting associate, property assessor deputy, substitute teacher, stay-at-home mom. 

 

I have been married to Buford Powell for 31 years and we have two sons, Caleb (27) and Parker (25.)  Caleb is married to Shelby and they have my first grandbaby, Roo.  We live on a 20 acre farm in Christiana.  When I am not working on school stuff, I spend my free time exercising, talking to friends, spending time at the beach, paddle boarding, and yard work.  I can never get enough sunsets on the beach, they are my favorite!!!!
