Chemistry I Honors, 2nd (Period 2) Assignments

1a) Open uploaded file Remind 2nd in 2nd block but Remind 3rd in 3rd block, use your cell phone or student email to follow directions and join Remind for your class by 1/14.  Get syllabus and safety contract and return them by 1/14.  Get black journal and folder in 2nd block but black journal and blue folder in 3rd block.  Use a blue or black Sharpie to write your name, subject and block on the covers.  Number top right corner of front and back sides of each sheet in journal.  Each side is a page; so, 100 sheets in each journal will give pages #1-200.  Leave black journals and folders in black crate for 2nd block at the end of each class but black journals and blue folders in blue crate for 3rd block.

 

1b) By 1/15, read and highlight matching information on lab safety contract while watching Lab Safety video at Lab Safety Video - YouTube.  Write title Lab Safety Video in Table of Contents of journal and notes from clip on 1st available page after #9.  Memorize how long to flush eyes at emergency eye wash station and how to light a Bunsen burner.  Watch PASS method for using a fire extinguisher at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jDI073TW9sY. Use Safety video and notes that you take on these topics to study.  Highlight or underline statements in safety contract that have NEVER, ALWAYS, BEFORE, AFTER or IMMEDIATELY in them.  Complete #1b by 1/15.  

 

2a) By Wednesday 1/15, open Lab Gear Handouts on common lab equipment, which is uploaded in files below, study and use visuals to draw and label favorite 5 pieces of equipment on next available page of your journal.  Label gear with correctly spelled name and brief description of purpose for equipment in each drawing.  Watch video on common equipment at Chemistry Lab Equipment (youtube.com) and complete presentation of 3 to 6 items of lab equipment at assigned seats with table mates by 1/16.  Rotate through 3 to 4 tables for review of all lab gear before starting Kahoot! 3a) On Friday, 1/17, use chemistry textbook or Chapter 1 slides in uploaded MC Ch 1 files that end with extension pptx.  Read 3 essential questions or objectives at start of section 1, make flash card with up to 4 review and new terms per card.  Number and underline Review and New Vocabulary words on cards.  Please write definition for each word behind it on opposite side of card.  Complete section 1 of chapter 1 study guide by 1/17 in 3rd block and by 1/23 in 2nd block.

 

3b) By 1/23, cover section 2 of chapter 1, use slides or textbook to make 1 flash card with 4 review and new terms.  Number and underline Review and New Vocabulary words on cards.  Please write definition for each word behind it on opposite side of card.  Do section 2 of chapter 1 study guide by technology break.  View Hypothesis, Theory and Law in Science at https://study.com/learn/lesson/theory-hypothesis-law-differences-examples.html, write notes on clip in journal and two statements.  One sentence must tell how observation, hypothesis, theory and law are alike, but the other statement must tell how these terms are different.

 

4a) Cover Chapter 1 Section 3 slides and/or chemistry textbook, finish Section 3 of study guide and make 3 flash cards of 12 review and new terms.  Each card must have 4 terms with their definitions.  Finish covering section 3 by Fri., 1/24. 

 

 

6a) On Tue., 1/27, view videos States of Matter at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wclY8F-UoTE & The Fourth State of Matter (Plasma) at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TydQrT6aZjI; take notes on videos in journal; title notes Videos on 4 States of Matter in Table of Contents.  While writing notes label each set of them with title of related video and finish before technology break.

 

6b) Also answer all questions on Chemistry CFA 1 SG, the uploaded study guide for first exam by 1/30.  Use https://4.files.edl.io/3bb1/08/30/21/031316-f913d444-7406-44bb-9a71-166f2ba30d7d.docx, write BMT 1 SG as title in journal and enter answers/work/notes there if you do not have your hard copy of the study guide.  Write answers on the handout and bubble them in on the Gradecam answer sheet.  Do not write your name on the answer sheet; it already shows your name.  Delivery of printed out results and discussion of errors will happen by 1/30.  Students must keep all answers, corrections and math work on handout to study while I have a copy of answers on answer sheets.  Several questions have more than 1 correct answer.  Write/bubble in all correct answers.

 

7) Finish for extra credit Nearpod Using the Scientific Method to Solve a Problem at https://app.nearpod.com/?pin=Z7KV8.  Enter answers and hit submit to record each answer as you move through the Nearpod lesson by 1/31, 8:30am.  No answers will submit if you skip clicking this after you enter each of them.

 

 

3. Use Chapter 2 Sections 3 Slides or pages in textbook to do sections 3 of the Chapter 2 Study Guide by 9/10, for extra credit.  If you do not have a hard copy of the guide, open Chapter 2 SG.doc from uploaded files and write titles of sections on the worksheets with answers on notebook paper.

 

4. Discuss/improve answers to Chapter 2 Practice #12-21 by 9/10. 

 

5) Do Chapter 2 Practice #22-24 by 9/11.
