Engineering Fundamentals Chapters 4-7

1a) Make up 1a if you missed class on 1/10-12/24.  Open uploaded file Remind 1st in first block, use your cell phone or student email to follow directions and join Remind for your class by 8/14.  Return signed syllabus and safety contract by 8/18.  Get green journal and folder in 1st block by 8/14.  Use a blue or black Sharpie to write your name, subject and block on the covers.  Number top right corner of front and back sides of each sheet in journal.  Each side is a page; so, 80 sheets in each journal will give pages #1-160, but 100 sheets will give pages #1-200.  No one has to number sheets in journal past page 160.  Leave green journals and folders in green crate for 1st block at the end of each class.  Class finished most of #1a by 1/12.
 
1b) On Thursday, 1/11, read and highlight matching information on lab safety contract while watching Lab Safety video at Lab Safety Video - YouTube.  Write title Lab Safety Video on page 9 in journal and take notes on video there.  Memorize how long to flush eyes at emergency eye wash station and how to light a Bunsen burner.  Watch PASS method for using a fire extinguisher at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jDI073TW9sY. Use Safety video and notes that you take on these topics to study.  Highlight or underline statements in safety contract that have NEVER, ALWAYS or IMMEDIATELY in them.  Complete #1b by 1/12..

2b) By Friday, start answering Test Your Knowledge questions 1-21 for chapter 1 on page 20 of Engineering Fundamentals on first available page in journal.  Ch 1 Work Scanned is uploaded image of pages 20-21 from textbook.  In journal, title work Chapter 1 TYK #1-21 p.20 and number answers.  PLEASE only write numbered full answers to the questions.  Include page number where you find proof of answer beside each response.
 
3) Finish Communicating about Engineering (CE) #2 on page 21 by Monday, 1/29.  You may use white paper from laser printer in classroom for this timeline.
 
4a) On Tuesday, 1/30 see uploaded files below, open and use Art01.pdf and STEM I Defined...Career Awareness, type answers into form, save frequently while doing so and send completed worksheet as file attachment in email to [email protected].  Instead of doing the work online, you may use printed out hard copies of these handouts if you prefer to write answers on paper. 
 
4b) On Thursday, 2/1 continue work on project for STEM EXPO 2024.  Add 1 block worth of progress to MS Word document and email the updated file before the end of class.
 
5) On Friday, 2/2, view hard copy of Chapter 2 PPT, discuss key concepts, use chapter 2 in textbook, in journal answer Test Your Knowledge questions 1-16 on pages 36-37 of textbook and prepare Communicating about Engineering #1 from page 37 by Monday, 2/5.  
 
6a) On 2/6, get hard copy of worksheet STEM bls Career SIMPLE Template which is in uploaded files, use handout STEM 101: Intro to Tomorrow's Jobs which is uploaded as art01.pdf, and fill in squares on worksheet.  Hard copies of these resources are on oak table.
 
6b) On Tuesday, 2/7, start using hard copy of Chapter 3 presentation or text, answer Test Your Knowledge (TYK) questions 1-15 on pages 56-57 of EF and prepare Communicating about Engineering (CE) #2 on page 57 by 2/9.  Give presentation to class by Mon., 2/12.
 
7) On Thursday, 2/8, get BMT 1 Study Guide EF Ch 1-3 and answer questions over chapters 1-2 as preparation for benchmark test 1 over chapters 1-3.  Write name of file as title on sheet of notebook paper, keep paper as exit ticket in folder.  Write numbered answers to questions under title by 2/9; use the internet for question #5 on the study guide.
 
8) By Tuesday, 2/13, submit answers for study guide for Test 1 over chapters 1-3 in Engineering Fundamentals, get corrections and make up any missing assignments.  Benchmark exam 1 will happen on Wednesday, 2/14.
 
9) Take Exam 1 over chapters 1-3 of Engineering Fundamentals on 2/14.
 
10) Cover EF chapter 4 on Thursday, 2/15, and answer TYK questions 1-21 on pages 74-75 and CE #2 on page 75 questions by 2/16.

1) Get information on engineer's notebook and handout on 1st project.  Read through information and start making an infographic on 1st choice career.  Use information from hard copies or uploaded files, Career Simple Template, Examples of Infographics and STEM...Career Infographic.pdf to start infographic by 2/22.  Use www.canva.com instead of www.easel.ly to make the advertisement.  Email progress to [email protected] by 9/28.  Progress must include your selected template, title of your STEM career, at least 2 related photos and answer to at least 2 of 5 required topics.
 
**PLEASE DO NOT CHANGE YOUR PREFERRED STEM CAREER TO ONE THAT SHOWS IN ANY OF THE EXAMPLES OF INFOGRAPHICS.  IF YOU NEVER CHOSE A CAREER FIND ONE THAT IS NOT IN THE EXAMPLES OF INFOGRAPHICS.  THANK YOU.**
