Twice a year, Holloway High School Principal Sumatra Drayton and Assistant Principal Fred Campbell issue a challenge to students.
Score a 21 or better on the ACT college entrance exam and they’ll each pay that amount to students in cash out of their own pockets.
“We’ve done it for several years, at least five, but maybe more,” Drayton explained.
Last week, Drayton and Campbell delivered on their promise and eight students walked away with cash awards for scores ranging between 21 and 26.
The payouts only awarded to students taking the ACT for the first time, but there is an exception.
“We’re still waiting to give $100 to someone for a 36. We’ve had some scores in the 30s but never a 36,” Drayton added.
Payouts went to the following students: Crow DeGennaro, Darian Holder, Nikito Hoskins, Hannah Rodriguez, Lily Thompson, Alyssa Turner, Morgan Wainscott and Micah Yung.
