Decoding DNA Stations

Directions:
 
1.Copy down the DNA strand of each station onto your worksheet that I gave you before leaving for the fieldtrip.
 
2. Using your knowledge of base pairs transcribe that DNA strand into RNA on the line below it.
 
3. You will want to break up that RNA strand into groups of 3 (or codons).
 
4. Using the Table on the bottom of the file above determine which amino acid you have for each codon.
 
5. Using the table of amino acids that relate to English letters find out what the mystery message is for each station.
 
6. You will turn this in tomorrow when you return to class.

Punnett Square Virtual lab.

Before beginning lab go to the important links to the right, (right click and open in a new tab. You will then see Virtual Labs by Mcgraw Hill. Go there and then follow the directions below.
  1. Open the Virtual Lab:  Punnett Squares

      2. The virtual lab simulation will be on the right side of the screen, and the    “Question” column will be on the left side of the screen.

 

  1. Click on the TV/VCR and watch the video.

 

  1. Read the background information in the Question Column under “How can Punnett Squares help predict the traits of offspring?”

 

  1. Read the background information provided in the virtual lab by clicking on the “Information” bar in the lab simulation area.

 

  1. Answer questions 1-5 on the Punnett Squares Worksheet.

 

  1. Follow the instructions in the “Question” column to complete the Punnett Square simulations. Record your results in Table 1 of the Punnett Squares Worksheet.

Midterm coming up.

Just a friendly reminder that every class I teach will be completing a semester midterm on Thursday. Please make sure you are in attendance for school that day. 

Homework week of Sept 18th-22nd

Both Biology and Physical Science homework has been added to the class calendar. Be sure to read the directions carefully. The assignment is due Friday Sept 22nd. Please remember that as of last week there is no more late work that is accepted.
